School of Rock – Day 6 – Bass Basics

SUMMARY

I thought that today’s work was helpful and fun to learn. I like learning about new music and new people.

CLASSROOM

LAB

The hook theory video helped a lot on how to write chromatic notes, and the second video was helpful because it helps you learn more about all the tools. I liked how he slowly ran through the site too. Step by step. And making the bass line was fun to make.

PRACTICE ROOM

I thought that the video that explained how to add bass notes was very helpful and also really cool. I also thought that his exercises were both very well explained and very well and it really helped me out a lot.

OUTSIDE / JOURNAL / IDEAS

The quizlet flash cards helped me a lot on Bass composition. I also realized that a lot of famous good songs do have great basslines.

STUDIO

I feel like it was somewhat hard for me at the beginning, but once I started to get it down it got a lot easier. I liked making a simple three note bassline, and trying to use different tempos along with it. I also tried to play Smoke on the water but I could not get it down.

CONTROL ROOM

I thought that the recording went really good. Its cool listening to yourself play something. Knowing that its you making that noise.

WHAT I LEARNED and PROBLEMS I SOLVED

What I enjoyed most was learning about Carol Kaye and the best bass player ever, James Jamerson. One problem I solved was with learning how to play the bassline on the 6th string. I could not get it down at first but I kept trying until I got it.

School of Rock – Day 5 – Rhythm Basics

SUMMARY

I thought that todays work was hard but easy once you just start really listening and are willing to keep trying.

CLASSROOM

Write notes of topics you want to remember.

LAB

I learned about drum arrangements and standard grooves, and their sequence of higher and lower notes. I liked learning about fill ins and crashes and when they would come into the different parts. In the second video I learned about smart patches, and were to put the fill ins in the strings. Also learned about 8 bars and 9 bars.

PRACTICE ROOM

I thought it was really cool learning how to play the guitar in a different perspective. And how they are both different instruments but you can use the same moves and thoughts on both of them. Overall I thought that both of these exercises were great and very helpful.

OUTSIDE / JOURNAL / IDEAS

I thought it was cool of thinking about tempo and how many beats per walk. I feel like it really goes to show you how much music is in everything.

CONTROL ROOM

I liked the control room and importing the MIDI file into soundtrap and recording a pattern over the beat.

WHAT I LEARNED and PROBLEMS I SOLVED

I liked learning about the drum arrangements and making beats. I also enjoyed playing the guitar the drummers way and recording myself playing.

Day 2

Classroom: I liked learning the lesson and the guy explained it well. I learned that white keys are A through G. I also liked learning about the major and the minor keys.

Lab: I did not realize how many songs have the same chord and how they sound the same. Its really cool being able to go through all the different songs and listening to them in different clips. Like the Verse, Verse and Pre chorus, and the instrumental were my favorite.

Practice room: I thought it was really easy to set up and all the videos really helped me out a lot. I really enjoyed being able to listen to different sounds that you make. And the recordings are very helpful to see how it sounds.

Control room: Watching the videos and go through it yourself is some what complicated but its cool to learn and be able to do stuff with learning the basics, tracks, and regions.
